The Grupo Riera Marsá, is an important family holding company which develops its business in four clearly differentiated sectors: Management of Patrimony, Hotel Management, Real Estate Promotion and Renewable Energies. We distinguish ourselves for being one of the family companies with the longest trajectory in Spain, associated to the “Spanish Institute of the Family Companies”.
BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY
In the 1940´s, the Riera-Marsá family creates the company “Industrias Riera Marsá, S.A.” within the food sector, turning into one of the industries with more relevance in Spain in its sector, with great expansion in product, distribution and innovation. That is how it associated with Standard Brands and later with Nabisco.
From 1960 onwards, Riera-Marsá diversifies its investments in the promotion of real estate. In Montornes del Vallés, Barcelona, a large industrial project is created and for the first time in Spain, with an industrial area with more than 100 industries such as Henkel, Starlux, Ayuso, Riera Marsá Alimentación, Armco, etc. are created. Also, for the first time in Spain, an industrial residual water depurating works is installed in the industrial area. This large project is completed with the creation of what was called “Ciudad Riera-Marsa”, creating more than 5.000 homes for the workers.
In the Balearic Islands 2.5 million square metres of land is purchased in the Alcudia Bay, Mallorca, for the construction of what would be the “Ciudad de los Lagos” and the urbanisations Tucan, Lago Menor, Lago Esperanza, and Playas de Alcudia. The directives and technicians were trained in Holland to enable them to apply the building techniques over marshlands. Also, here the creativity and the innovative vocation of the group prevailed creating for the first time tourist urbanisations with sailable channels which united developable plots with the lakes Menor and Esperanza and from these, to the sea.
Profile of the Company
As of the 1996´s the Grupo Riera-Marsa centres its investment policy in three strategic business lines: Hotels, Real Estate Development and Renewable Energies. This has enabled the group, half a century after its creation, to turn into one of the most important companies in the Balearic Islands, specialising in urban and residential development and in the management of tourist activities, main source of the island’s economy.
The expansion of its activities has also required a search for new markets in order to position itself as an international group with a presence in Eastern Europe as of 2004. The focus on growth, as a priority in the business strategy, has been based on a significant investment programme, with a clear objective in the areas of international expansion and in the diversification of sectors.
